I think I've got to the bottom of this - it's something to do with the actual model.
I found and downloaded Zeewolf's fix for the invisible issue and played around with it and it's definitely the model. I just need to PM him and ask him what he did to the models once he exported them. Thanks for the help anyway guys!  Mike.
