Definitely YES! I'd love to find out who told you "no".

No, you asked if you could play American in SH5 and I said no, and it's true. But no such problem for SH4 1.5!

Default SH IV and 1.5

The game released is Silent Hunter IV (Wolves of the Pacific) -- versus SH III , etc.

The SH IV game has had 5 iterations (upgrades). The 1.5 is the last and most recent.

Many of the Mods in the download section are geared specifically to a particular iteration e.g. SH IV 1.4; SH IV 1.5 , etc. Be sure to "read the fine print". Modding a 1.5 version of SH 4 with a Mod that's made for SH 4 1.4 (or vice versa) will give very unpredictable results and may cause you to have to re-install the game.

The SH 4 (or IV) version, release 1.5 is also known as the 'GOLD EDITION" and also as the "U Boat Missions Add-On" .

A good explanation of the mods and SH IV in general is here: http://www.fleetboatsim.com/

Also more detail on the mods and what they do (or don't do) is here: http://www.fleetboatsim.com/#!__the-mods

It is the the only one (as far as I know) that plays in the Pacific Theater. SH III and SH V are Atlantic Theater designed games playing as Kriegsmarine U Boot Captain (or KaLeun -Kapitaenleutnant zur See i.e. Lt. Commander in English speaking Navies)

Hope that helps ,

Fair Winds and Good Hunting

Bernie

Clay my good friend, you already have a copy of Silent Hunter IV Gold Edition.
G2B sent you one in 2010

That is as BernieP2 said is Silent Hunter IV (4) Version 1.5.
It plays US Fleetboats same as your V1.4 only it fixes some problems and adds some new features. It also adds a U Boat campaign to the game but you do not have to play U Boats, it's like a separate game.

Uninstall SH4 V1.4 and reinstall from the Gold Edition disk SHIV V1.5.

On the game menu screen you'll see the same things you see in V1.4 plus there is a U Boat missions option. Just don't click that and you will be playing the same SH4 you are playing today. Don't add any mods or anything just take a boat out and see how the game plays.
You can mod it later and we can help you better as you will be playing the same game almost ever body else is.

Very few here play V 1.4 and all the new mods are for SHIV V1.5, TMO, RFB, RSRD and FOTRS are US Fleetboat mods they have nothing to do with U Boats.

SH 5 is some entirely different and I'm sure you are not interested in it as it is only U Boats.

You have put a lot of time and effort into this and I would love to see you get to play it. Just take things one small step at a time and I'm sure you'll get it going.

Clay from what I've seen FOTRS might just be the best mod for you.
It's based on an older version of TMO and they have taken it from there, added lots of new ships and has the improved graphics and has fixed most of the game problems. There are lots of ships and convoys etc. to shoot but the escorts aren't as deadly as the newest TMO.

Here is the link to the FORTS thread, read through it and you'll get a very good idea of what the mod is about.

Real Fleetboats RFB doesn't seem to be your type of mod.

I think that Captn Scurvy did a version of his Max Optics mod for FORTS, if so that would be a good one for you, it has a very nice orders bar (HUD) and a nice big periscope view. If your eyes are like mine this is very helpful. This is what I use.
edit. This version MAY work with FORTS.

Give it a try if it works than you are good to go.

I wouldn't add any more for a time till you get use to the game.

I haven't played FORTS for some time but I enjoyed when I did play it.
