Jeff, if you like the vanilla game, you might want to try the Game Fixes Only Mod, (GFO). From what I understand, is its the same as vanilla, but addresses many of the issues the stock game still had.

If you find yourself getting bored, or not feeling enough challenge, then maybe go for one of the others. That's what I did. Although the CTDs that plagued it at first were the main reason I opted for one of the supermods.

As Sailor Stave put it, the supermods do fix many of the things that were broken.

The mods ADD realism like TMO no more wimpy escorts you now have to FIGHT and depth charge armed planes and also historical dates for IJN radar. It also adds SUBNETS so you can no longer raid Rabaul and get out easy sneasy you have to avoid subnets you will also encounter enemy subs. TMO also adds to new boat classes the Tench class and Narwhal class. TMO also increases the density of minefield the Vanilla game had like one mine per kilometer while TMO has 15-20 per kilometer. TMO also adds Bungo Pete and then you throw RSRDC in their voila you have historical battles from the the battle of the Eastern Solomons to the sinking of the Yamato.

I had exactly the same trouble a while back when i started. As i recall, i never actually found the cause and had to start a new Career.

Regarding mods, not all of the mods are about Difficulty. GFO is, as the others have said, purely bug fixes.

Why is it that those of us who don't use all the latest and greatest mods and don't play with difficulty set to totally impossible get this type of response almost every time a question about vanilla SH IV is asked?

I for one have tried the mods. I discovered that the extreme realism takes away the enjoyment of the game. I have enough stress in my regular life that I prefer a less "stressful" escape from real life.

It's a GAME for goodness sake. What is WRONG remember it's a game. Aren't games supposed to be fun? Or is this improper behavior for this forum?

Jeff
Go easy Jeff.
This has happened to me too when I used to play the stock version. A quick, easy fix is simply to return to base as if you're ending your patrol. When I did that, my radar suddenly reappeared.

As far as the mega/super mods are concerned, they're not as intimidating as you might think. If you give them a try, I'm sure your stress level will drop even further. Heck, few people have a more stressful job than I do.
