I meant Timetravellers crush depth mod. When I activate it, it comes up with a box showing a game path that does not match mine, and terminates itself.

Hmmmmmmmm, that's weird HW3. It found where I have SHIII installed, D:\Games\Ubisoft\SH3 with no trouble.

When installing, you may have to manually enter the path for it to follow? Just got up, and on the first cup o' go juice. (Coffee)

What I can't remember is where the torpedo, and weapons renown values are stored. I got used to SH4, and have forgotten a lot of stuff.

Simply use a text editor (such as notepad) and open the 'SH3\data\Cfg\basic.cfg' file. Once there do a Ctrl-F down to the '[TORPEDO_TYPE0]' section and you'll find the renown values listed in the bottom line of each torpedo type. The same holds true for the other weapons as well (also in the same file). Have fun and happy modding!

I feel like such a rube! Thanks again FITW!

Feels like I got SH3 senility or something. All this stuff I could find in heartbeat before. It's like learning everything all over again!

Look into registry - maybe there's an obsolete entry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III]
InstalledPath=C:\SilentHunterIII\
<- change it to your game path
Path=C:\SilentHunterIII\sh3.exe
<- change it to your game path

.

No need to feel bad, we all get rusty. Happy to help and you're quite welcome!

Timetraveller´s SH3 Crush Depth is really a great tool. I prefer it because it´s more comfortable to adjust the wished settings.
You can even choose from the factor of crash dive depth randomization. Also, there are some sources given for the suggested values.

Just one disadvantage. The program creates a "copy-of..."-file as a backup in the same folder like the original .zon-file. As we know for some time, sh3.exe obviously eats more or less every file within the data folder, it´d be better to save the copy-of... at another place.

Btw, IIRC TimeTraveller was one of the first who published easy-to-use-Tools for the community. Honour to whom honour is due.

This is a known issue. You have to change the path in the registry. But don´t ask me how, I don´t know this either. In my installations it always worked.
