I honestly think the DEVS learnt a lot from their SH3 experience, and I would expect SH4 to be an awesome sim. The DEVS are aware of the mistakes that were made with SH3, but are also justifyably proud of their work on SH3. They are also very aware of the opinions expressed in this and other forums. They are motivated and eager to get going on this new project. SH4 is going to be really something.

i just dont feel like im involved in a uboat war playin SH3. its more just like a series of random battles
So, you say that because there is so many mods out, the game sucked right out of the box? what about half life, over 2700 mods that were actually released over 7 years, most of which were total conversions.

Let's hope for the best...

An expansion would be good. With many side, many campaign to play...
I loved sailing from the german port to attack allied shipping,but...sometime,i've wondered how will should be fighting for "The Other Side"

Maybe we should start a petition

DISCLAIMER:This is not a rant...mmm,well,maybe a bit...but it's for a better WWII subsim
Even with his flaw SH3 was an incredible game, one of the few title that i played for the most time.I would love to see the game EXPANDED and IMPROVED.
I hope Ubisoft will understand this:

Better product and good support means a customer more versed to buy your product.

A product rushed or not totally developed and unsupported means one less customer.
Come on guy, make a masterpiece, something that people will talk about for years!

I've talked too much.

I hope to ride the wave of many virtual sea in the future!

This is the best news I've heard about a sim release in a long, long time. Not since the original Silent Hunter has there been a modern, 3D graphics sim of the Pacific "Silent Service." Although nobody knows exactly what SH4 will be comprised of, I can't imagine it not having the American forces as the heart of the sim.

Imagine the probabilities (possibilities?)...another (patch) to SH3 based on improvements made while creating SH4, campaign/missions that place you in the vicinity of the four major carrier battles, surviving an extended patrol in the shallow China Sea, commanding a sub with 6 forward tubes and 4 aft!

This sim should include a higher instance of Task Force engagements since the Pacific War was much more a naval war. Land and Air forces were much more dependent on the navies of both sides; a major difference from the Atlantic.

I can't wait!

havent played half life so couldnt comment. SH3 was definetely a step up from SH2 but for me it still goes in the "couldve been 10 times better pigeon hole"

anyways at least we've got an expansion to look forward to. lets just hope some of the talented people on these forums get involved makin a sub by the fans, for the fans.

im off round the world travellin next month for a year so here's hopin its ready when i get back

All promises in development of SH3 were nothing. A lot of features (wolfpacks, radio messages, etc...) goes with the wind. Working modders make SH3 like it´s today.
SH4? A lot of promises again? I only need that Ubi finish SH3 with a real expansion pack.

It's not a bad new, but I would prefer a DC2 .

Link says release projected to be 3rd quarter 2007 so hopefully it will be done right (more so than SH3 which while very good, bugged and inaccurate)

Would also be nice to import IXs for a run from Europe and back with many difficulties etc.
I look forward to those beautiful big Jap cruisers, Atogo, Nachi, Mogami classes etc. they were cool ships and they kicked ass and took names to das boot!!
It should take well into 2007 for us die hards to tire of modded SH3 and by then we will have 2GB Video cards with 5GB FSB CPUs and 20GB DDR 800 RAM with 100 terrabyte HDs, LOL

pacific campaign.....uhmmm

does this mean we get small, tiny, leaking US subs..

or BIIIG BEHEMOTH of the japanese navy ???

allthough, it seems it's to be a US side sim....i would love to play with one of those GIGANTIC japanese subs, don't care how slow turn rate/speed/divespeed it has....gotta have one...

***OT: saw a japanese WW2 sub movie last night: Lorelei - Witch of the pacific

short spoiler: sub build in Germany, fittet with a new..."Sonar" system....great movie, allthough, it gives the impression of a somewhat...clumsy US navy...

Wouldn't call that tiny.

AND they had an ice cream maker aboard

Me too. I'd really like to get my hands on a I-400 class sub. That's a sub with 3 (yes, THREE!!) airplanes aboard. link

I would hope that the DEVs would just plug in ALL the navies into the new engine. I would wager there would be no shortage of modders from SH3 to help "build" all the ships/subs/etc.

Single battles from any side, or a campaign from one(probably American) side.

Even if it is only one sided, I truly hope for AI subs that can be used in packs for single player, or at least contribute in some meaningful way.

Multiplayer needs to let the humans back onboard the escorts. An 8 sub wolf pack vs 4-6 DDs would be nice.

Definitely needs more immersion to the campaign. Sufficient tonnage should be able to affect the war's outcome. Not accompishing assigned objectives should also affect the outcome in a negative manner.

Maybe even a Squadron Commander section that the player uses while in port between missions to send other subs out to specified areas in packs. You get to be BdU(or equivalant).

I'll be happy if they at least allow us the joy of going to sea in the US fleet subs, but being a Japanese skipper would be icing on the cake! I'm personally looking forward to the enormous Narwahl class with its two six inch guns
