There is a mod hereabouts which allows surface vessels to fire off red flares....a search should find it.

These ones have them:
SH4 Effects SH4 Effects compatible with GWX and I think Lifeboats and debris has them Edit: sorry got that wrong, I thought you meant distress flares for other ships. I'm not with it today, I'll leave the links up though in case anyone is after distress flares for ships
