@ Sailor Steve:
It's apparently a sign of being tough or G-Money or other street cred nonsense that goes on.

@Anthony:
I also have heard it did originate in prison. The implication was something to the effect of liking other men in a intimate way shall we say.

I don't think Steve was pissing off anyone.

Not really AVG if you go for the original it meant whore and if you go for the original American use it meant rotten timber.
Now a couple of hudred years later it got some new meanings, but the word certainly didn't originate in prisons

I was not talking about the word I was talking about the pants dropped in the back thus showing the Hanes underwear and or bum. I have heard wearing pants in this fashion originated in prison.

When you're in a holding cell, the police take your belt and shoelaces off of you. Hence, baggy

To the extent that is popular on the streets I don't think so.I have an uncle that was a prison guard in the 70s to mid 80s and he said that he never saw any inmates have their pants saggy to any where near that extreme(also this was a violation of the dress code anyway).I also work with a guy that served 10 years in Alaska State prison for murder(the victim had raped the guys sister and he beat the guy to death on the street) he was in during the 1990s and he also says that he knew no inmates that wore saggy pants.Also most prisons have strict dress codes and wearing pants saggy is a violation.I think it came from street gang members sometime in the late 80s or early 90s and got spread by 90s "gangsta" rappers (even though most of these guys are really upper middle class) and from designers who make clothes in the "urban" style.I bet they make a lot of money as well seeing as baggy pants wearers also need super long t-shirts to complete the "look".

Most people in jail/prison wear slide style sandals with socks all the time and many people on the street wear slide style sandals with socks but no one says that comes form prison though I would find that claim to be much more plausible.Of course as Salior Steve said "Some people are always ready to accept explanations they like for things they don't."

Do these kids today realize that the "Saggy Pants" fad started in prison where inmates used to wear their drawers low to display that they were um... owned.. by another inmate ? Shortly after, it became a gang-banger style because to a certain segment of the population, going to prison is a badge of honor and is something to be admired.

To be honest I don't even understand how its a desirable fashion or comfortable at all (yes I understand that it originated in prison... which says something else about the younger generations of today..)

Whenever I see one of these clowns walking down the street I can't help but laugh.

If they want to look like the retarded scum of society that they appear to be, I say let them.

Did you somehow manage to miss the entire part of the thread where that was already mentioned, discussed thoroughly over several posts and pretty much disproved? You should read the thread before posting.
