My only advice is if you havnt got 250mts of water under the keel in 1942 and you go looking for trouble than good luck .

1942 is not as bad as 1943, but enemy detection skills do seem to bump up a couple of notches.
So now the fun begins... ![]()

im now in may 1943, and my god its hard. Earlier in the war i used to laugh and planes as they dropped their single bomb 500m off to the side and wonder what you were all on about when you said they were dangerous - now i crash dive and turn as soon as i see them. As for destroyers. Single ones arnt to tricky but when you get 4 or 5 of them if i get out with only half my boat flooded and wrecked i consider myself lucky.
Its true what they say, when you get to 43/44 you forget about tonnage sunk and concentrate on survival. Its great fun though, when you survive an attack boy do you feel alive. ![]()

i fear the later years...word has it that it's safer at Bergen. And, supposedly, according to a russian friend of mine, you could expect to hit tankers heading to russia via the most northerly route. But I've never verified that myself...never made it to Bergen..

Looks like I spoke too soon. My next patrol I've had nothing but trouble. Not from those pesky DD's but like everyone knows the planes have much better accuracy. Got 2 DC's dropped on me, 28% integrity, flooding in both forward compartments. I had everyone and their pet hampster on repair duty. I managed to get it under control and only went down a few meters below periscope depth. And that attack destroyed my deck gun and killed the 4 men i had on watch!!.. torps from here on out.
The bad thing is that i still have 75% of my torps left so this is becoming one intense patrol, not to mention that it's the worst possible weather now. can get the merchants on hydro but visual.. forget it. Back I go to try and finish this patrol and hopefully come back in one piece. Wamphyri |
