So my entire iTunes library had to then be copied in to Sony's software to then be converted to Sony's proprietary format meaning I could've ended up - had I been less savvy - with the same music library three times.

The only issue I have with iTunes is the constant nagging about QT and it's constant need to update - disabled now so all is well. For mp3 downloads I usually use drm-free Amazon, and then import into iTunes.

Actually itunes music is DRM free also-just saying.

Thanks, but Amazon is usually a little cheaper for me, and I like to think Neal gets his slice, albeit a very, very thin one.

Well, Amazon is not available in Switzerland, heck none of the big download stores are universally available. Thanks record companies.

Another good choce is bandcamp, allows bands to martek their music directly, many have their stuff on sale on their website.

Now I'll go back to listening to Johnny Cash sing Hurt on my metrosexual iphone.

At least you have a good taste in music - that makes you one of the last Mac- guys who will be put to the wall after the revolution

Cheers from the guy whose last cup of coffee at work was a metrosexual cafe latte from a Minnie Mouse mug

Obligatory:

Funny story there. I buy and download music from Amazon among other places. Every time I download an album I recieve a message upon installation: Could not install song. What? Of course it installed it - I'm listening to it right now! Then I finally figured out that it was also trying to install it to iTunes, which I refuse to have.

I actually enjoy seeing that message now.

installing a song?
didn't know that amazon supports his direct competitor. It would be fun however if the user got a message after he puts the song into itunes: "You dumbass, if you bought it from us it would have cost you only half!"

As for competitors, I figure that If they give Apple a little money and make their stuff iTunes-friendly it's worth it to them for the money they'll make off the deal.

Dude I have a PC not a Mac. Otherwise I'd have to give up silent hunter.

As to Amazon, well they should make their digital music available in more markets if they want to compete.

Build your own and do not run any non ESSENTIAL CD's. Thats what I had to do.

I'm afraid of connecting my printer - lord only knows what a 4 year old printer will do to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
