Which "Supermod" should I choose?
Real Fleet Boat, Fall of the Rising Sun or TMO?
Also will I need to download gramaphone/radio files seperate ? Also how are the sounds compared to stock? I like realism, Good sounds and a wide selection of ships/merchants/aircraft etc.

Realism is in the eye of the beholder.
The game mechanics of RFB are very realistic. That is their goal and they succeeded. It's a very good mod. TMO on the other hand takes some liberties with pure realism but you will find that you need to play in a more realistic fashion. Also much more dangerous escort AI. I use TMO the most. As far as eye candy goes both are very good. Add RSRD to either and you have very a real campaign layer with all the big battles and true convoys. Haven't played FOTRS yet. Radio files need to be downloaded separate. They are really big so have some hard drive space. JSGME makes swapping mods easy so you can try both or get MultiSH4 and play both at the same time. Magic Edit just saw your sig and we need to improve on that some, there is a war on you know.

Actually TMO2 looks updated, so I will give that a whirl first. I've been playing Silent Hunter 3 for years. I bought the SHIV collectors edition when it came out but only recently got into it, due to reinstalling SH3 and being unable to find my disk. So I away another disk, no better time to really get into SHIV.
I have the Uboat expansion, tried a mission just seems far fetched to me and not nearly as good as SHIII so I'll stick with Amerika.

My experience with TMO so far has been GREAT. I've tried TMO with Operation Monsoon over it and did not like it a lot.

How can you play OM and TMO? OM is a standalone supermod to be used with RSRDC for American missions. TMO is incompatible with other supermods per instructions in the TMO thread's initial post.

Thank you for the advice. I am just getting back into this game after a long hiatus.

I don't even go that far. OM is for u-boats as far as I'm concerned, and RSRD just gets in the way. For playing in the Pacific I use RFB with RSRD in a separate install. Once I get my new computer I'll be running different installations for all of them, plus all the SH3 versions.

Sailor Steve
If you use multi SH4 you can have a a set up for TMO/RSRDC; RFB/RSRDC; FOTRS, GFO, and OM.
The trick, Sailor Steve, is to get a set up with OTC mod. Easy Aob can be applied with the above setups except OM (German side.) Easy Aob and OTC conflict, at least in my my setups, so I use one or the other. GFO works with RSRDC v401, and OTC is compatible with with RSRDC, but I am not sure if OTC is compatible with RSRDC v401. GFO is specifically designed for addition of mods to the stock setup; however GFO includes many of Webster's (he designed it) game fixes and does not have many of the features of TMO. TMO vs. RFB - TMO dds make the game interesting. Without them, RFB, at least in my opinion, is merely a point and shoot game. The last time I used RFB, the dds were not a challenge. FOTRS is about to release a new version which should improve it and my incease the AI of its dds. OM is a very good mod. Figuring out how to use manual targeting on a UBoat is interesting, and lurker, who designed RSRDC, created it. I wasted a lot of time trying to hunt the Bismark in the Denmark Straight until I realized that I was in a UBoat, and it was on my side. Last edited by I'm goin' down; 06-20-11 at 09:28 PM. |

Right now in SHIV I'm running TMO/RSRDC...so far been very fun.
Since I have my SHIII back I've been busting my ass getting all my mods set up on it. Being a long time fan of NYGM or whatever, I switched to GWX3/MaGuI? and am loving it... starting a new WaW campaign, fun stuff. If Subsim didn't have a download limit, I'd have everything I need already. Honestly as much as I love SH3, after really getting into SHIV for a few days... I feel it is a far better platform, just wish there were more mods for Uboats/ATO.... the immersion just isnt there. However playing as americans good stuff. Wont get SHV til at least a year or so when they correct it. Sad the community has to make a good game. Hats off to all the modders of all the SH games though. I don't have the patience to do it myself though im a master at making mods work together.

You are missing something by not trying OTC. Easy Aob is great, but Captain Scurvy's OTC mod is a masterpiece of modding. He is a perfectionist, and displays brilliant technical skills along with the ability to communicate with precision. If he and aaronblood (creator of Mobo) ever collaborated, the result could be spectacular.
(OTC is compatible with RSRD v550. It is not compatible with TMO. If I activate RSRDC after activating TMO, I wonder if OTC will work?) |
