SH4 crash to windows on start

I've installed SH4.
Whenever i start it, the screen goes blank, then the game just crash back to windows.
No welcome screen, no intro movie, nothing.

I've updated my GPU driver to the latest one. Still the same.
Any idea ?

We will need some information from you before we can help.

What are your system specs?
What operating system XP, Vista or Win 7?
What game are you loading SH4 V1.4 or V1.5?

If vista or Win 7 put the game in a separate folder on your drive, Do NOT use Program Files. Be sure to run as administrator and do not use the default SH4.gu as a short cut Find SH4.exe and use that.

After you install the game re start your system before running the game.
If you have to reinstall the game make sure you delete the SH4 folder in My Documents.

I was playing SH3. Which makes me fall in love completely with silent hunter series.
Then, after i upgraded my pc, then install SH4, this problem occur. Same problem occur when i tried to play SH3 again
Sadly, SH5 works perfectly fine. Problem is, the gameplay on SH5 is subpar compared to SH3

phenom II x6.
4gb of ram.
nvidia gt 430.
windows xp sp3.
sh4 v 1.5.

Insert your SH4 install DVD and choose install DirectX...

If still no go, delete "your documents"\SH4-folder and try again.



You're not using the Steam version, are you?

With Captain Kyster on the case, the problem will be solved (fixed.) He knows all the secret fixes. I tried to recruit him to my boat, but it requires more renown than I have ever earned.

You're not using the Steam version, are you?

Nope. DVD version.
But if i downgrade my directx, how can i play my other game (crysis 2) ?

Yes, i've tried deleting the SH4 folder. Still no go

You will not downgrade your directX, the game disk will only install the components needed by the game. You will still be able to play other games.

I've tried installing the directx and media codec 9.
The game still won't run !

Also, how much RAM does your system have and what is your GPU type?

Now you mention codecs... wasn't it once a problem for someone with a Kodec-Lite or something?
Worth a try to remove all added codecs...


It just doesn't make sense that an upgrade would do that to SHIII/IV. Normally a piece of cake to run this old software...

A last shot: do you have any yellow exclamationmarks or red crosses in your system properties?
I.e. anything with missing driver or not working?

I will try moving the movies dir and remove the k-lite codec.
All my other games works perfectly.
