Sorry but should have mentioned 'not possible if using SH3 Commander' because you will then be going into the alternative method which involves Flotilla CFG files.

It will work in game mode only as per date and sub type in image posted above.

I used to get it with an earlyer version of SH3, I was able to start with a type IX at the start of the war, if I unchecking the historical U-boat availability dates.

Yes...but I've got GWX files loaded as well as the CFG file for SH3 Commander.

What I posted earlier should work...it took me one minute to carry out and a further two minutes to check and worked fine...check the date and sub type on the image above.
