Well everyone cried about not being able to interact with the crew and not being able to walk around the boat so the devs changed that in SH5. That was a MAJOR change and in doing so it would be very difficult to make some kind of crew management like SH3/4. I can see the head scratching that was probably going on when the brain storming sessions were going on probably discussing this.

yeah, tdw. but its not contrary...walk around, interact and also have a real roster of your crew. the sh4 style was the most realistic one. having watches defined and also the repair teams, etc. even some of this was job of the LI or the 1WO, you as a captain where in charge of ALL crew members. what you wanted them to do, was done.

what i miss most, is getting some kind of relationship to your crew. in sh3 and sh4 it was a fundamental part of the gameplay to know, who is sailing on your boat. so if "gustav schmidt - matrosengefreiter", new on your boat, was injured or died on service, it felt really bad. some young men, new to the navy, just on first patrol and already dead.

and also the decoration of single crew members is really missing. in sh3, you decorated the command room crew, if you felt like they did a good job, or the repair team, if their work was really life saving. they all get an iron cross...

the fact we didnt have it in sh5 is not part of the concept, it was not possible to add it in time. otherwise it would have been done, as it was a main part of your job as a captain to manage your crew...and not just your officers.

In the special abilities folder there is lots of stuff . What i wanted to do is get rid of the points cost and just use the morale cost . I dont know how to do it though .

sign on that, too. but getting watch crew teams beeing defined was missing! so you had to set every crew member manually. this sucked and was better solved in sh4. but the system itself was very nice! also getting new crew members by going to the barracks, choose your officers...seeing their skills and experience, etc.

this all is really missing in sh5!!!

As for me the animations of the crew and their rythm of the day should be fixed first. I cant watch the cook standing there 24h a day no matter under depth charges or crash dive.

Yep, I vote for that. Crew don't have daily routines and if they've any we can't see it. However those routines could vary based on crew management...

Also applied randomly IA crews.

Yeah, getting members of your crew to actually possibly die (and stay dead rather than recover) is so so so needed in sh5. .. although I do understand its nearly impossible to do.

Mind you nothing is ever totally impossible.

I also warmly remember and miss decorating and promoting a crew member and then really feeling bad if he was killed because of my decisions.

My dream crew management system : ( just dreaming!)

1) A crew selection screen before you start a mission where you could choose your officers and read about their individual skills and backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses ( in dossiers / folders ).

The best officers would be bought and unlocked with renown.

2) Everyone can die on the sub.

3) Full controll of the crew like in SH4 and SH3

4) A better version of the office screen from SH3 where you had a desk and could phone up for base transfer requests?
