The contact bearing is true bearing, meaning its bearing from you as measured on a compass. The SH games use relative bearing which is based on its bearing as measured from your bow.

well to me thats stupid... I thought thats the whole purpose of relative bearing so any joe schmo on the boat could quickly understand the position of something no matter what heading or direction the ship is pointed...

is there a mod to convert that to relative bearing for the waterfall?

To change it to relative would be stupid....not the other way around. Modern submarine warfare is MUCH different than WW2 was. I would suggest reading a couple of the tactics guides and the many reasons will become clear. The simulation reports data just as the real life counterpart does. There are reasons that it changed in real life, it isn't just about the game.

Not to mention you can see Ownship's course on that very same display, so you can easily visualize relative bearing should you choose to.

Wingtip.

Perhaps this is not a true bearing vs relative issue at all. The Crsr Brg readout on the right panel displays the true bearing of where the cursor is currently located. It appears your cursor is sitting around 090 on the broadband display on the left.

If you were to left click, on the broadband display on the left, on the contact it should show the correct true bearing.

As far as I know all bearings in Broadband and Narrow band are true bearings.
