Each time I read this thread, I get more and more excited about the prospect of being able to volunteer at the USS Cod when it opens up again this summer.

The Constellation is in a bit worse shape than expected:

Quote:
The damage, attributed to rainwater seeping into the hull from the gun ports, is expected to lengthen the ship's time in dry dock at the Sparrows Point Shipyard by 10 to 14 days and add about $70,000 to the $500,000 repair bill.

Baltimore should do what "we" did with our frigate Jylland - build a dry dock for her.

Nice to watch progress on the Torsk!

That would be a wonderful idea however I suspect the additional 70k to make repairs now is much less than building a completely new dry dock. Plus, the portion of the inner harbor that would be affected by the new construction would not be pretty for store owners and the aquarium. It would be a taunting task. Something about the allure of a floating vessel/boat is in keeping concerning the inner harbor of Baltimore. The odd thing here is both the Torsk and the Constellation are in the same dry dock. If the Constellation has to stay for 6 months so does the Torsk!

Got to spend a few minutes with the guys at the dry dock today. Not too many pictures that haven't been seen already, but I'll post 'em when I get back to a place where I can.

Totally neat experience.

Comrades to increase seaworthiness we are welding all the hatches watertight...

I kept trying to convince them to leave one aft tube operable, with enough air in the tanks for a water slug.

See, every summer, there's this "pirate ship" that cruises (ok, TROLLS!) the Inner Harbor and blares the soundtrack from Pirate of the Caribbean over and over and over again. I figured one good water slug, and they'd leave us alone.

Shame they have to weld the tubes like that, but I'd rather see them closed than rotting in the sorry state they are now. Anything to make her more watertight is a plus.

Removing the prop from the shaft. I need to find out were the prop is going. Did not know it was going somewhere:
