When the number one industry of a country is the ability to invade countries and kill other nation's citizens, it tends to make other countries a bit nervous.

We spend six times more on our military than China does. But when China announces a new weapon system, we cry "international threat" and spend even more for "defense".

Wasn't one of the reasons the Soviet Union fell was because it choose to continue spending on more on military stuff when it really could not afford it?????

You know what we could do. We could stop building all of our military equipment and but the cheaper Russian stuff and re-fit it with our electronics. How many MiG-21s could we buy for the price of one Raptor?

On a serious note, it's funny when it comes to base closures. Closes all the bases, but not my base! There was a suggestion to get rid of the OR national air guard, all of the lefties here were freaking out: "How will we defend ourselves?" Noone gives a crap about or-gone except or-gone.
