The issue is that many, including myself, have less than reliable connections. I can only log in to the authentication servers once every six or so tries. There are others that I know who can have something like vent going (nominal bandwidth but shows they are connected to the internet) that can not connect. The people I am talking about (myself included) have high knowledge of port settings, firewalls, routers, and NAT setup in general.

Then there is the ethical question of do you care to be accused of stealing something for which you paid. I, myself, did not pay for this or Assassin's Creed 2, and would not be playing it if it weren't for someone (who did not know I was boycotting UBI) buying me them for Christmas. Now I am not so ungracious to refuse a gift; Especially when Steam would not give them their money back. Even the GPU reviewers at Tom's Hardware felt it necessary to complain, in their benchmark review of the GTX 570, about the authentication process.

Waiting a minute to authenticate over a 24 Mb/s connection is ridiculous, as is waiting another 45 seconds once the game shuts down for a sync. Ubi’s own version of Steam, this is not.

As for me. I just did my first patrol with real navigation added. Interesting. I was able to get both my ducks but it was different trying to navigate. Well, realism has stepped up a bit for me. I do wish it was able to give a more constant prediction during the Kiel canal trip since they have constant information that should give a general idea of where they are. I also wish I knew how to use the sextant myself. I may be able to plot position faster than my navigator.

Are there any scripts out there that automatically have my navigator check position at specific intervals?

I usually turn the TDC on and use the periscope to aim. You can't be too jumpy on this, its not like you just see the target then aim and fire, especially when they know of your presence (since other boats in the convoy have been attacked) and they are doing S patterns. But by using the TDC on option, aiming correctly, identifying ship, and adjusting torpedo speed and impact fuse, I am very effective, rarely do I miss, and I conserve my torpedo's by only using 1 torpedo per ship and just wait for the boat to sink rather than using another and doing it quicker.

Iv'e tried using the lock and weapons engineer but they always seem to miss and be way off. Plus I like the realism.

For anyone using TDW MO and wanting to try manual targeting.
Check out the "fast90 tutorial" from the main game menu

Its a good first step

Over the last couple of years, so used to manual guidance that quite often just forget about the availability of automatic guidance.

Started with auto, but have switched over to to manual with map updates after helpful tutorials by Kylania and Ddrgn and haven't gone back. It takes time to get used to plotting a manual attack, but I've found it to be much more rewarding. Sort of getting out what you put into it. Though, play the way that you enjoy and just have fun with the game.

I don´t play SH5 at all anymore but I used to play with auto TDC.
But maybe I´ll give it a go one day with a few new mods and manual TDC to start with.
It´s hard to find the motivation on a abandoned game which is not even half finished.
It´s still on my HD though.
