Ok downloaded and installed IRAI 0_0_30 and have changed the values for those two settings to min 50 max 75. I'll see how it goes. Thank you for your help.

As I have said , the editing solution worked and I got away. I returned to base and docked but when I started a new mission I experienced two CTD's for no obvious reason. After the second I gave up and watched some TV. Is it possible that by editing the init.aix file in IRAI to the values that I have stated, I am causing CDT's?

I restarted the mission from the sub pens and have had no problems so it was probably hard disk activity causing the ctd's. My Dell xps630 is a right pain for unexplained disk activity.
