Some interesting tidbits for all the doubters of remote controlled A/A out there...
Video of a Dogfight between a Iraqi MiG and a USAF Predator armed with Stingers. Unfortunately the Predator lost. Quite possably the first Air to Air with an unmanned combat aircraft.
The
DASH drone a shipborne ASW heli-drone controlled by a station the size of a kitchen oven plus a radio and rated to carry either torpedoes
or nuclear bombs... developed back in 1960... the DASH is still in service as a target drone.
The
SSM-N-8 Regulus a
nuclear cruise missile capable of being remote flown by ship, submarine or fighter aircraft (yes fighter aircraft) and could even land to abort its mission. Developed in 1955!
Do I need to mention the TACTOM and SLAM-ER, with their man-in-the-loop control system?
