http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ght=3gb+switch I'm more than sure it's (part of) the problem, especially since it happens near harbors. |

Hello,
well this is better help than "format your harddrive and re-install" lol ![]() Ok, i have set the Win32 parameters to use more than 2 Gb via command line, and edited the SH5.exe with the Explorer suite mentined by TDW, to make the sim make use of that - will try it out and report back. Thanks and greetings, Catfish |

Hello TDW, Pintea and those others who helped -
i am running the sim now without stuttering, and without CTDs. THANKS ! I just did what TDW had proposed, and what Pintea mentioned: Download the "Explorer Suite", open the SH5.exe file (after having made a backup) and found that the sim file was already set to use more than 2 Gb - so i just closed it without changing. Next i typed those commands in the command line, so that Win 7 32 bit would allow the use of 3 Gb generally, and restarted just to make sure. Started the sim, saved, loaded, played for 6+ hours without any CTD, all the time alt-tabbing in and out of the sim to open documents or surf the web, only to go back to the running SH5 without problem. There is one small problem which i had before - the small "notepad" or what's it called at the lower right vanishes after some time, and i can only bring up the big messages window after this to read answers or ackonwledged orders - but nothing to do with the CTD or anything. Much thanks and greetings, Catfish P.S. also installed that antilag thingie mentioned by TDW - also helped against lagging- P.P.S the "white-out" rectangles on the menu bars as shown in the screenshot in post #1 are also a thing of the past. Hello TDW,
first thanks ![]() You can make this window as big as you wish, and switch from two lines (as you see in the screenshot) to more, clicking the small round button at the right of this message window. (where now is that tiny white rectangle). You can also open this report window by clicking on one of the buttons at the upper right vertical menu list, only then it appears at the left, and is much bigger. It is not the radio telegram report, but this other list button. The text in it is the same as in the small window bottom right, but it is bigger. This bigger window will still work, when the smaller one has vanished, but it is not convenient to let it on since it blocks half the screen. This said small rightmost bottom window vanishes by itself after some time, usually around an hour or so after starting the sim. What is strange is that when you go to higher time compression it appears and gives information, but going back to 1x time, it is gone. Hope you know what i mean .. ![]() I somehow am not sure whether this has anything to do with the Opus Magnum mod, just wanted to know if someone else gets that, and if there is a remedy .. EDIT: Seems to happen after a torpedo attack, when the small officer icon appears and this range and AOB window, the small report window is then gone and will not appear again, after an attack. This might also be related to the original SH5, or to Trevally's range and speed mod - but i'm only guessing. I never played the vanilla game long enough for comparisons. Thanks and greetings, Catfish Last edited by Catfish; 01-25-11 at 01:27 PM. |

Hello Magnum,
only play "Dangerous Waters" two other games (flight sims) at the moment, but seldomly: "Over Flanders Fields" and "Rise of Flight", both aviation WW1 sims. But have only played "OFF" since, and it runs as fluently as ever. Will try out DW and RoF. I have some serious stuttering in RoF since i changed to Win 7 32 bit, from Win XP - on the same machine ! My PC had a better performance with XP, with the same hardware configuration ! I will try this with RoF as well, maybe try to open the "Rof.exe" file with the FF explorer, and see whether the switch is set to > 2 Gb there. Maybe there is a performance gain in RoF now that i entered the string into the command line. Will test this and report back here. (See post #1 for my hardware configuration) Greetings, Catfish P.S. No crashes with other software experienced, videos run perfectly (i just used the PC for watching some TV repetitions, smooth as ever) P.P.S. There are some bugs video memory-wise and restrictions that strangle hardware performance in Win 7, i am really astonished that so few people know, or experienced this. |

Hi Catfish
With the "Range and AOB Finder" or " TDC Checker", you should not leave them running. They are both on a loop (waiting for the next button to be clicked) and if you click next when not aiming at a ship in your scope it could crash so please close if you are not checking something. You should click follow target before using to prevent this and to ensure the script is checking the correct ship. You might have noticed that at time when you click "follow tagert" that the scope jumps to a target you had been lock on too. This is the same with the TDC checker etc. Clicking "follow target" will ensure you are testing the correct ship. |
