How to change an officer qualification mid career?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to change qualifications of a specific officer during your career? I had set the officer whom I later choose to be my watch officer to have the Torpedo qualification and since he is now my watch officer I would like to change it to the gunner qualification VIA some config tweaks or something. I browsed to...

\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\(CAREER NAME)\(Latest Patrol #)\

And opened the crew_config.cfg files that I found, and actually found the officer and his qualifications within the .cfg file. I changed the number of the right qualification and made sure I changed it for every entry for that officer within the .cfg file. When I load my career and looked at the officer it had not changed. Then when I went back to check the crew_config.cfg files the number has been changed back to what it was before. So I guess there is a different location that this information is stored that it reads from? Or am I missing something?

Thanks,
WolfyBrandon

SH3 Commander. Among its many super-duper functions is the ability to change the rank and qualifications of any man on board.

I know of SH3 Commander but I would prefer to change the files manually because SH3 Commander will conflict with the mods I am currently using in my career. Maybe JScones can let me know how SH3 Commander goes about doing it?

Thanks for the reply Steve,
WolfyBrandon

How does Commander conflict with anything? It's not a mod.

You have to make sure you edit the correct file.

If you're at port between patrols, edit the file Crew_Career_[X]0.cfg, where [X] is the number of the patrol you just finished (the highest number, that is) in the main save folder (the one with the captain's name). This file represents the crew situation for the save game 'before patrol [X+1]'. (So when you start playing, you just choose the latest save game normally).

If you're currently at sea, choose the highest numbered folder (representing your current patrol, and there the crew_config_[NN].cfg file, where [NN] is the name of your latest save.

Editing these files is also a handy way of changing the clothes of individual crew members if you're using a clothing mod.
