Its really difficult to get into, as far as the learning curve is like running straight into a wall. For a first time play running through the terran defender start is a good place.. a few missions in and you have an m6 that will get you under way to whatever goals you see fit to set.

I found the Terran Defender start a bit tricky. Went straight into plot and died repeatably before giving up and going onto a different start.
