No, but it does model incompetent captains not paying proper attention to their situation. How close to the last ship you sank were you when you took the damage. A very long time ago I died in a training mission when a ship I was shelling from 500 meters blew up, taking me with it.

haha there are some really funny ways to die in the training missions... I once collided with an aircraft I had downed in the AA training and died from that.

Yup, that would be it (except the slim possibility of running into a mine, but who would put mines in vinicity of Kiel before the war even started?). I'm sure I didn't ram anything (the ship I turned towards was still a dot on horizon after it happened, and since I didn't use time compression until I completed the turn, I'm also sure I didn't ram the sinking one). But being damaged by explosion seems more likely (I think I was about 600-700 meters from my last target) though I assumed that if the initial "huge" explosion did no harm to me, secondary explosions while the sinking ship is already underwater would also be safe. Well, wrong assumption.

So, how far from exploding enemy is considered safe?

You will find the mine defences of Kiel were laid (in game terms) from Jan 38 and remained until Dec 45.

Ouch... I don't think even Field Marshall Haig would order his men to conduct training exercises in the middle of a minefield.

So there are mines in the training missions? And no mention of them in the SH3 User Manual (which is useless, granted; still)?

Thank you Ubisoft for making the game easy for newbies. I am not sure I would have stayed with the game if I had gotten blown up in training.

Apologies, let me make myself clear....I was talking abot the SH3 game with the GWX3 supermod added.

There is a page you can pull down (from I think the periscope station) in the upper left hand corner of your screen that shows you where the defensive mine fields are laid out at all the ports. This is in GWX 3.0 Gold. You might want to check that against your position where you went BOOM.

I think Jimbuna can confirm this as well.
