The music from X3: Reunion is nice.

The first thing I do with a new game is turn the music off. Often it find it more distracting than enjoyable.

Anyone else kill the music in games?

Usually I kill it, yeah.

That said I like all the RA music and the BF1942 was kind of punchy.

Not initially but usually after a session or two of play.

Default Men Of Valor

Been playing this game for the first time (found an old CD Rom boxed set). The soundtrack is nice; reminds me of one of the Medal Of Honor themes (Pacific Assault?) Maybe they were from the same composer...

An inspiring track from one of the Final Fantasy games...

Sometimes I do if I need to concentrate. I also like to watch videos on my other monitor while playing some games, so I'll shut the music off and even turn the master volume down then.

That said, of any game my favourite soundtrack would be in Mount and Blade: Warband

Most games, yes. Especially racing/other sim games and RPG's and shooters. Nothing bugs me more than when I'm racing there's some odd electronic music going insane in the background. I can't hear my car, I can't pay attention. Or when I'm walking in an open world game...unless it's an in-game radio like Fallout, I'll kill the music on all others except for Elder Scrolls. Those always have good music.

Some games stand out with the music.

BF1942 was great. I still play that occasionally.

My favorite of all time has to be the Splinter Cell Chaos Theory soundtrack by Amon Tobin.

Close second is the SC: Conviction OST.... I love Splinter Cell Soundtracks

When we start sending the military into combat with accompanying music like they used to, I will start listening to music when I play war themed games.

It is really difficult for me to get into a sniper game when there is a music soundtrack following me.

"Hey! I think there is a sniper around here!"

"Why do you say that, did you see him?"

"No, but I heard the soundtrack increase in intensity"

A subject for debate; music can be very intrusive and it's good that we can usually turn it right off if we choose. In some games ("The Saboteur" and "Prisoner of War", to name two) it complements the action immensely, as well as being important in helping you gauge just how much danger you are in.

I think the music in "Death To Spies" intensifies the drama of escape...

2 games:

TES Morrowind. It's just right and pretty monumental which again makes it right for that game. Also, works well on a stereo if you don't mind short tracks on repeat like if you were say, a goldfish.

Ultima Underworld. Context sensitive soundtrack in a time when soundtracks were mostly beeps and boops. Added immensely to the gaming experience then as it still does. Few UW players can hear that tune today and not see themselves running around in dark caverns.
