Didn't the guy realise joining up and airborne duty in a unit called the 1st Brigade Combat Team might mean actually killing someone some time?

I would agree. It is hard to justify being a conchie in an all volunteer service.

I'm normally a pretty laid-back guy. I don't get riled easily, and I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and forgive them when they mess up. The way I see it, we're all just people in this crazy world, and when someone else isn't screwing something up or doing something stupid, I usually am. So please understand the significance of what I say when I tell you that I just about popped a vein when I read this [expletive] at 1:15

Oh, f-ing really!? You know what doesn't change over time? The mother----ing contract and your oath, sworn before God and your countrymen to uphold the Constitution and defend these United States with your life, if need be. That means obeying the UCMJ, and that means obeying lawful orders.

So where in the frak does this unbelievable, cowardly, indescribably detestable piece of fecal rot get off refusing a lawful order to deploy? Who the hell is this spokesman, and what is wrong with him? What is this "rights", BS? You know how many rights you have in my military? NONE! You have a goddamn mission to complete is what you have!

This....disgusting pile of refuse that somehow obtained classification as a human being, let alone a soldier, is a stain that can never be washed out of the uniform that men and women have proudly fought and died in. Even if he is court-martialed and subsequently atomized by a nuclear blast, and every trace of him is completely wiped off of the face of the earth forever, the uniform, and the people who wear it, will never be rid of the shame. Forevermore, they will have to admit that this honorless son of a bitch was allowed into their ranks, if only for a time. It will never go away. Not ever.

Beating the living crap out of this guy with a wrench would make me feel better, but the damage is already done. I was going to conclude by saying something meaningful, but honestly, I'm just consumed by the idea of beating PFC Abdo's face into a pulpy mess with the butt of my rifle, so I got nothin'.

Unacceptable. If he would be a conscript, he would have a point - or not (even in draft systems like the German you can refuse to serve in the military and do some charity work instead). But as a volunteer who had not had a gun pointed at his head when putting his name on the form, he has no freedom to pick the wars he want to do and and refuse those that he does not want.

It's not even as if the military would have treated him especially harsh, by letting him run his third tour in a row without break or soemthign like that. In such a case I possibly could have sympathy for such a guy, depending on the special characteristics of the single case.

For me this is just another muhammeddan guy demanding special status and special rights and special attention for his super-dooper-ideology.

Dishonourable discharge is not the clever thing, because "dishonourable" means nothing to him anyway, and letting him go is just an encouragement for others like him, now seeing that this door swings open indeed if they kick against it. There is a reason why the military police is hunting deserters for years, it has something to do with maintaining discipline in the troops. So: send him over and put him into the first attack line.

I'm inclined to agree with the above (less the redacted paragraph). Not only did he take an oath, he has been PAID by taxpayer money to do a job that HE CHOSE TO DO! So it was OK to accept the clothes, shelter, and paycheck, but it's not OK to do what you're being paid to do?! I don't think so! If he didn't want to fight other Muslims, then he should have looked more deeply into the Army, what it does, and more importantly who it was fighting when he joined.

You can't send him into battle, he may turn on our own guys...something which is unacceptable. But you can't kick him out either. Therefore, the solution is simple. Leavenworth.
