While it has some basis on pieces from the Irish and British press its mainly based on US coverage of the selection process for the upcoming US elections, so perhaps it is not illiteracy but simply just plain ignorance as you yourself suggest

I was always envious of those who could drink coffee. It upsets my stomach, but I have tried repeatedly to drink it over the years, as it is really so much hipper than tea. I mean, coffee shops are just plain cool. I've ordered tea before at a local Starbucks, but slinked out the door after the snorts of derision coming from behind the counter.

I think Bioware have been following this advice ,for the Han Solo smuggler type in the Starwars The Old Republic MMO ,there's a special move they can use - Boot the opponent in the Nads then shoot them in the head as their bent over.
Which of course gives you the best of both worlds - the flashy (Insert Fu of choice here) move and guns

Not to mention the fact that a kick that high attempted against a savvy opponent is a very good way to put one's own 'nads in jeopardy... a fact that some Tae Kwon Do would-be tough guys end up learning the way.

I don't recall ever being able to kick my own height....but I do recall using a 34" carbon baton to good effect
