No one want to have to mod either of those.
Out of curiousity, how hard would it be to put in 43-45? Will the game support it natively or would it be a major hack job to put it in?

Naively I would suspect that adding the years to the campaign is the easy part - the harder question is does SH5 include the equipment, technologies and advancements made during those two years? Or would they have to be added? If the latter, then add in a liberal sprinkle of 3D modellers before anything is complete.

Cross our fingers and hope it's the former. Has anyone given the data files a look yet?

There will be no 'final patch' so if you're waiting for it before you Mod, then you're waisting time.

So how many more will there be? SH3 had four, SH5 had five, though we had to pay for the last one.

If they wait forever and another patch doesn't come, you can laugh and say "See? I was right!". If, however, they start putting massive amounts of work into it only to find they have to do it all over again, they'll be less likely to want to do all that work twice, or three times.

Any more wisdom?

This is entirely the issue. I doubt that the basics of the campaign are that much more complicated than with the previous two installations - adding new convoys or bases and so forth was relatively straight forward and I imagine it's not that much harder now.

But for an extended campaign you would need new ships for all the main players and the new ordnance for them. How about radar, u-boat snorts? New playable boats would pretty much be essential. Later marks of the VII are probably not impossible to get in there but would people settle for a Type IX with a Type VII interior?

I think a basic, modded campaign is probably doable right now but a full user revamp will be some time away. I would say at least 2 years from now. With SH3 we already had - in the base game - virtually everything we needed. With SH5 a lot of it will have to be created from scratch.
