The old WS mod works well with one problem that the image basically remains 1024x768, they just stretch to fit the wide screens, still in hi res though!
 Also you will find the cursor will disappear on the bottom and right of the screen by the amount of the difference between the new resolution and the old 1024x768, can't be fixed, this problem is not in the new version however.
