The Abegweit?
 I actually steered that boat when I was a kid. I used the radar and comunications radio too. I wouldn't call it ugly. Top heavy maybe, but not ugly. I did spin the wheel around hard to starboard and then back to center. The entire ship leaned heavy then settled back on course. Scared the hell out of the bridge crew, lol! Ah, childhood memories!
