If it did run fine before, what was the last mod you installed? Was it installed through JSGME or manually?

If mods were installed manually, did you also change any of your config files manually as well?

I know that this a lot of questions, but they can help to isolate the reason for the error you are getting.

Yup, was working fine last wednesday when I last played it. The only new mod that I'd put on was the updated version of DarkWraith's UI mod. Haven't done any manual changes at all. Plus, I've even tried running the game from a fresh install (uninstalled and reinstalled game) and still getting the same problem.

Hmmmm. Darkwraiths mod is a rather complex PITA to install, although well worth it when it is set up and running...something could have gone screwy there, but I would think a re-install should cure that.

If you are running Vista or Win 7, did you install to the "Program Files" (default) directory? Perhaps it is not uninstalling something, and on re-install it is not updating whatever it left behind. I agree that you may want to download and replace the MSVCR90.dll file...but that should have happened when you did the re-install. In any case, it is worth a try to do what Capt_Sluggo said anyway.

You may also want to check the game directory after you uninstall the game and make sure that the uninstaller is not leaving files or directories behind. Perhaps it is leaving your configs or saves behind after uninstalling, so when you re-install they are not overwritten. (just a guess, but I had that problem with another game)

AHA! Sorted it!

It turned out that installing Visual C# 2008 had messed it all up, apparently SH5 doesn't like Visual C++ 2008 redist - I had to un-install all my 08 redist stuff, and then download and re-install Visual C++ 2005 redist - all works a charm now!

Dang microsoft stuff!

Thanks for all your replies chaps!

I'm having the same problem--so I uninstalled all the C++ programs, and noticed when re-installing SHV, that it used C++ 2008 redistributable--not 2005? Did yours install 2005?

Can't say that I'm sure. TBH I thought that SH5 used C++2005 but can't say for certain. Perhaps the version of that DLL that I was getting a problem with isn't altered between 05/08 - Might be worth re-installing C++ redist 2008 and see what happens.
