When I want to save, firstly I look at the map for any obvious problems i.e. distance from land, sunken ships etc. Then I dive to 40-50 meters and do a thorough, manual hydrophone scan with the volume right up. Provided that is clear I surface fully, go to F2 view and then hit Esc and then save using a unique save name different to anything I've used previously. I then hit Save and Exit and create a second save so the first is a backup.

I'm normally ok with this procedure but every so often, I do still get a corrupt save due to unknown causes and I have to roll back to a previous one. It's rare though.

Also, once I've completed a patrol, I go into my SH3 documents folder and delete the numbered patrol save folders up to the previous patrol, so at the most I only have one previous patrol and my current patrol save folders present in my documents.

And ALWAYS, ALWAYS, roll back SH3Commander before installing new mods, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, while you're in port.

It only took one T1 eel to convince that boat not to float.

You can delete previous patrol saves without affecting your career? Interesting...
