Default Ground war question

Hey

Does the war on the ground go on even if you don't do the objectives? As in, is the fall of France triggered by a date or an certain objective?

I triggered the invasion of narvik by sinking a medium merchant... 4 or 5 destroyers appeared, sailed tword the city for about 2 minutes, than vanished.

Well of course you understand that "Silent Hunter ground war" is a color on a map, that's it, nothing more.

Seems to be buggy too, I was tasked into one of the french ports while the mainland was still colored red for the enemy. I got to sink some enemy ships in friendly port, easy tonnage.

I have no idea what time, setting, objective, script or whatnot selects the ground colors.

...or the infamous "operation weserubung"..

Oddly enough, whoever wrote the script for the mission didn't consult with the mission builders. There are no british warships in Norwegian waters after mid april, yet the mission is available till june.

thats a great question, the devs implied your actions would effect how the game progressed so i too wonder if you fail your objective can the result be the ground forces fail as well without your impact of completing your mission

Like Webster, my understanding was that MY actions could affect the outcome of the war and/or the availability of various hostile units for campaigns. Maybe I haven't gotten far enough into the game, but, I went into Scapa Flow (thank YOU, deaf-and-dumb DD's and DE's!) and took out a couple, "Capital Ships" (BB's) and would like to know WHY Dieter's STILL in a foul mood !!!

...by the way...what happened to, "realistic" in terms of destroyer response? They're persistent, but they can't, "ping" me to death!

There's a port in a bay on the Northern end of the arc for the "Sink 50,000 Tons in English Costal Waters " mission.

After running on the foggy surface at all ahead full right by four destroyers on screen duty, I was hoping to find just a tanker or two in port. Instead, I found 12 parked destroyers. I proceeded to sink 9 of them.

It wasn't until the 8th went down that the harbor screen force even responded.

By the time the 9th went down I had 4 destroyers on the surface, and I was at periscope depth with only a few meters of clearance from the ocean floor. Their pings were continually ringing off my hull now. - yes if death by pinging was possible, I was indeed "dead".

After evading a single DC salvo that got "in the ballpark", I went to silent running, dead slow, and slowly crawled past the lip of a deeper channel, and then ran under the thermal layer at 50m - and got away with 1% hull damage.

So 9 destroyers later, having completely crippled the main convoy escort and patrol squadron for all of Northeast England, I would indeed hope this has some effect on the ground war... but I know it doesn't.
