How many subs and ships are in the regular edition compared to the gold or collector's edition?

includes three famous non-playable historical U-Boats:
  • U-99 (type VIIB) – submarine of U-boat ace Otto Kretschmer
  • U-30 (type VIIA) – submarine of U-boat ace Fritz Lemp
  • U-552 (type VIIC) – submarine of U-boat ace Erich Topp
Those 3 subs have their own mis file
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Campaigns\CampaignProjects\Common\__Collect orsEdition - CollectorsEdition .mis

Gives them movements from ports out to sea to follow preset patrol routes as did
Just a pity that it errors in Mission Ed which means it prolly wont work ingame aslo

I don't think you can buy the (physical) collector's edition, if you are in the US.

But can we import it here? I've bought stuff from Amazon.uk before and have no problem with it. Is the disk region locked? Or will I be able to play the UK version if I bought the physical collector's ed?

This was discussed before and the reports were that if you try to order from amazon.co.uk, then you get a message that says something like this product cannot be distributed to your location due to agreement with the copyright holder, or something like that. As far as I know, there are no region locks in place to bar a UK version being used in the US, but you can't ship direct.

The little hardback book in the collectors edition is quite nice but fundamentally flawed as a recognition manual as the ship illustrations are split across the book spine clipping key details like funnels.
