Decks awash is 6 meters?

I keep forgetting to do that.

Click your depth gauge to just under 8m. Eight or more will send your watch crew below.

Before OLC mod and GWX 3.0, I never manage to get close enough for a sort of "Kretschmer" attack. Funny that my first time was in early 43, and manage to get with in 2k of the convoy and inside the escort screen! Flat sea, no moon, 0 knot wind, possibly no radar (?) in the escorts and/or green (?) crews!

Now, only during the first years of the war I can get close, possibly 1,5 km of the convoy before geting detect by a ship. Weather conditions and running with or without decks awash matters!

With GWX and OLC I can get within 300m of merchants before being
spotted at night, in rough weather and with decks awash.

Agreed. I have been running GWX + OLC environment. Have regularly made night surface attacks on singles at about 1000 meters when it is overcast. Kept my speed down, ran decks awash. Even managed to slip into early war convoys (39 - mid 40) like this, no more than 1500 meters from nearest escort. Again, no moon, cloudy night.

Yes, that should be doable providing the conditions are favourable...low visibility and crews below veteran status etc.

I have done it with heavy fog at the beginning of war, i guess it is too deadly later on when radar comes into play.

The fog certainly wouldn't shield you from radar....only the salty depths can aid you then.
