Another person (Itkovian) just reported the same issue on an nvidia card. That's not a graphics card issue - that's a corrupted install. Reinstalling did the trick for him, should work for you.

Yep, it did. I also disabled my AVG antivirus software during the reinstall, and now (so far) all is good.

I had the exact same issue, with nVidia cards. I reinstalled after turning off AVG, and all is well.

It seems to be a problem with AVG. I have a support ticket open, hopefully it will get a support "answer" added to their list.

Do you have a legitimate reason for saying that or is it based on your feelings in this matter.

Ive heard nvidia cards make more noise but generally have more stable software. Theory aside either manufacturer is good.

I have a ATI 4890 and have had no issues whatsoever with SH5 on the highest settings. (win XP, cat 9.12)

5870 running at 1920 X 1080 4x edge detect adaptive multisampling (equivalent to 12X standard AA) all bells and whistles on, no problems, frame rate rock steady locked at 60, You can keep your Gtx 260 thank you very much

Nope, thanks for the suggestion but i've done my research,
ATI HD 4870 1GB is my choice.

Radeon HD 4870’s bandwidth is similar (in fact 3% higher) to the GeForce GTX 260’s, the theoretical superiority of the 4870’s raw processing power over the GTX 260’s is particularly impressive considering that the 4870’s GPU has a die surface area that’s barely 45% of the Nvidia card’s!
Both the cards are fairly evenly matched in benchmarking various games, i will give you that much.
Over and out.

Anyone playing it on an ATI Radeon 256MB X800XT?

That's what I've got, but still waiting for the game to ship so haven't tried it yet......

It ran SH3 and SH4 ok.

I started up SH5 for a quick look (I have to put the computer to work unfortunately for the next 12 hours) and I did not notice any awkward issue with the graphics.

This with my Radeon 5850, and Catalyst 9.11 drivers.

The windowed mode did not work immediately, until I turned it off, rebooted the client, then turned it on and rebooted the client again. Default value was with windowed mode enabled, yet the game was then running at fullscreen.

I also couldn't climp up through the conning tower, until several failed attempts.
