This isn't Obama's doing. This little bit of joyous news is the work of the SecDef, CJCS, and the CNO. By the way the current CJCS is an Admiral that didn't serve in subs, ditto with the CNO. Needless to say this strikes a chord with me for personal reasons.

Well, as I said when they started putting women on surface ships,

You'll either have a lot more well-behaved sailors, or you'll have some of the most gross-out chicks you've ever seen.

The final result of THAT was doing away with the Crossing the Equator Ceremony. Thus ending a 2,000-year-old Nautical tradition.
