No wound badge slot on shot #26...so I suspect that nothing's changed in that regards; the Kaleun is still invincible!

If one of my crew said that to me, right at the beginning of the war*, they'd be booted right off my boat!

*Remembering that at the time the Germans were told by Hitler that Poland provoked the "defensive" action through 30-odd Polish instigated border incidents.

That's a good point, JScones. In fact making statements like that would actually have been dangerous - I think one Kaleun (forget the name & his boat #) was shot during the war for making "defeatist" remarks. I think this is a case of the game manufacturers projecting modern perceptions of Nazism onto Germans of the wartime era. By and large, I bet most Germans, even if they were not party members, at least wanted to win the war.

And the goatee seems odd. From pictures I remember they either had a full beard or were clean shaven. Am I wrong here?

They wanted to win the war, but they also did not serve the Nazis. Read about the Kriegs marine, they were the most Un-Nazified branch of the German Military hence why Donitz became Chancellor of Germany.

One reason for the lousy attention to the U-boat Waffen was because there was very little love of the Nazi party. Yes there were some commanders that were Nazis through and through but they were later in the war.
