Well i cant believe this is seriously their name choice,....

`Torpedo Officer: Kurt "steck sie rein" Faust`

Shall i translate it?, something like Kurt "stick her in" Fist

I really hope that's moddable or i get a problem each time i look at that screen.

The cooks name isn't much better,.. that hackle hacklaender thingy.

You know HAck is some form of hacked raw meat, same you use for spagetti sauce or burgers, etc.

real jesters at work i guess

THat is a tiny little bit flat isn't it.

Bear with me, as I'm actually going somewhere with this.

Silent Service: No crew. But who cared, because it was the first real subsim, and a lot of fun.

AOD: No crew. But who cared, since it was a good submarine combat simulator.

Silent Hunter: No crew. But who cared, because it was another good submarine combat simulator. I could imagine a crew. I even gave tours of the boat to pilots I rescued. Also I ran simultaneous careers, one from each available home port.

Silent Hunter II: Had little blue figures that turned red if they were killed. Not much else to recommend it.

Silent Hunter III: First subsim to have a real crew. The management was tough, but it was cool to see them there. The names were limited, but SH3 Commander fixed that, and I can run three or four simultaneous careers, and though the faces are limited I will never have a duplication of any names.

Silent Hunter IV: The crew management was much better, the faces more realistic, and I still have limited repeating names, but I live with it.

Silent Hunter V: Every patrol, every career, every time I play I'm going to see the exact same very distinctive faces, with the exact same name. No matter who I am or where I go, they'll always be the same.

That last part may not be true, and I'm hoping there will be a lot more variety than we've seen so far, or at least that this will be one of the parts that's easily modable. If it is always the same, it's going to get boring very quickly.

Soup Nazi: "You want bread? [Bernard nods] Three Reichsmarks extra!"
Bernard: "Was?!"
Soup Nazi: "No soup vor you!" :topples bowl of soup over Bernard's head:

Please tell me that at least one of the crew always wanted to pretend to be an architect.

I'm going to take the devs at their word and say this could be modded to our hearts content. Supposedly we're going to have the same tools available to us that they used to create the crew in the first place.

I think we'll see multiple crew packs...I keep saying I'll smile a smug smile when someone makes the first "Das Boot Crew" mod with appropriate faces and names.

And of course I'll download the hell out of it. My boat is going to have U-boat spezial cocktails for damn sure.

Kurt steck Sie rein Faust is really weird nickname...

I mean.. Kurt steck Sie rein die Faust ...

creepy

Thats about our Sonarguy:

Benno always writes letters to his mother, which of course when found is even more fodder against him Benno begins to cry if stress is too high.

I hope he will not cry when we suffer dc attacks...

Somehow I'm thinking that he will stare steel-eyed into the nearest wall with nary an expression on his face no matter what happens around him - flooding, battlestations...

That's what's really worrying me, It's going to get really boring seeing the same crew over and over and over again.

It's nice that they have individual backstories etc... but once we start different campaigns it's going to start taking the realism out of it once we are down in the submarine for our 2nd campaign only to realise everyone who died in the first campaign is back again at their stations....

Unless the devs have made hundreds upon hundreds of individual crew members...which they just havn't....then we can look forward to our crew constantly resurrecting...which will just become stupid.

They shouldn't have to though, that's what annoys me, the devs should have seen that this would be a realism problem and should have acted accordingly.

I guess it all depends on who is willing to bog down their system in countless crew packs because the devs only made one....
