Have you tried the S boats in the Aleutians in 42 and Kuriles in 43 wit RSRD yet? I am thinking about it.Doesnt look like many convoys or escorts though when opened it up with ME, might be kinda boring.Prob could be fun though.
I've never gone to those areas, maybe twice. I wish I could keep a S boat or even a Tambor throughout the war. Seems you turn new boats down over and over, you just get retired...least I did. My favorite boat is the Tambor.

I don't mind going deep if I have the water. With TMO escorts, I still get battered with charges that deep. Really though, I haven't seen that depth gives you much more of an advantage, you can about to the same things in 400 ft as you can 600. Plus, just a little damage at 600ft can implode your sub quickly, so it's actually more dangerous at times.

I'm playing TMO without RSRD right now..The planes were sure dumbed down in RSRD. Been killed twice at 130-150 ft deep of water by planes.
The escorts seem to me the same, but could be the new patch that I just started using. Do miss some of the ships, map labels and big convoys of RSRD, but gonna give it a go. Love the way the ships zig and they don't mill around after an attack like they do in RSRD. Damn shame, a little fine tuning using the good of both could improve the game a lot. Be nice to see RSRD include some of Duc's changes, harder planes, more ships, better speed, ect...I do like running into convoys at fast speed, never see that much in RSRD...you have to think more when they're going fast. Like all the pieces are there if somone would just put the puzzle together...really not a lot to do. With DRM with SH5, SH4 probably has a long life ahead.

The planes in RSRD just dont spawn as much, still pretty lethal.More realistic also, no f'n zeros on ASW patrol.Far as I could tell only time Zeros patroled for subs was when they were based on escort carriers and that was still rare.

I have really began to love RSRD with TMO.My big issue with it is although historically accurate and the sources used to create this great mod are pretty solid, some things I would like to correct but can not because it throws everything out of whack if you edit via the ME.In TMO I once had the traffic in all years pretty much perfect and lost them when had to clean TMO off that time, if I take the time to do it again, will definitely remember to back the files up.

As far as AI goes, i have seen a big improvement in the version of RSRD that goes with 1.9.

The RFB patch comes out this weekend, should correct most things, hopefully the radar issue will be fixed.I'll prob play RFB again for a bit bc i liked it except some issues.Want to see how different the RFB damage model is, never got depth charged.

Yea, I noticed the zero's are doing ASW everywhere early war....carrying about 5 bombs. Funny, I lost my dive planes and everytime a plane showed on radar, I could only get down to about 120 ft and got killed many times. Even if I stayed dived...well, so much damage I couldn't go below 150 ft without dying, they just pop me over and over...

I can tell quite a difference early war with the planes..In RSRD they would fly right over you at 100 ft...without it, they bomb me about everytime.

yea in TMO rule of thumb is moment you have SD contact, DIVE.In other mods I will sometimes chance it by showing a low profile and going to all stop and they miss me unless great vis or have radar, depends on conditions.Their bombs cant touch you below 165, I dive and go to 200 feet usually.Sucks you had so much damage couldnt go deeper, kinda screwed there.

I made it home finally, just to know I could. Now I'm sitting under a Kuma LCA going two knots in 200 ft of water while 8 various escorts sit and wait with a smile on their face...Getting old and CO2 will be a problem, been hiding for a few hours, time to try to break out. Funny, I've taken out 5 small pass. ships sitting here riding beside it.
