But they won't get a backlash...subsim represents a tiny percentage of their customer base and most of their core demographics will either not care or not even notice the new drm.

We need to remember, guys, that the assorted nutjobs, cranks, nerds and...err...'differently social' people who make up the simming community aren't really the target audience for anything much these days. It's not very nice but it's becoming truer every day.

Brent doesn't need to visit Subsim. He can check out the comments on any gaming news site that have carried the news, or at any of the news aggregators like Reddit or Digg. Nearly every comment in every one of these places have been completely negative.

It will all come down to the actual number of copies sold. They will only listen if no one buys that crap. If this should be the end of Silent Hunter then so be it but I'm not going to support this form of behaviour. It's the same why I didn't buy Rise of Flight. If we just take everything they throw at us what will they do next? So far they let us do the beta testing, they let us (at least the modders among us) finish their WIP games (Stock SHs have been sometimes next to unplayable). Now they want to decide who and when we can play the game that we have paid for.
I think it is finally time to stand up and show them the finger (aka not buying their crap).

The ironic thing here is that Ubisoft will undoubtedly attribute the decline in sales of their new PC games to piracy and thus will develop an even more intrusive version of DRM for us to suffer in the future!

It's not just SH5, Egan, it's all new Ubisoft games, including big titles such as "Assassin's Creed II". Having browsed through the forums of some of these other new games, I somehow doubt that concerns will go unnoticed.

What is really needed is a mod that allows Xbox games to run on a PC!

Well that wouldn't effect me since I wont buy any games that require DRM, period!

I couldn't help but LOL when I saw the last paragraph.

Quote:
In 2008 Ubisoft launched a $20 million lawsuit against Optical Experts Manufacturing, the company that it contracted to reproduce copies of Assassin’s Creed for PC, after one of the firm’s employees allegedly posted a pirated copy of the game on the internet six weeks before its release. Ubisoft said that the leaked edition of the game was downloaded more than 700,000 times, costing the publisher millions of dollars, and that the pirated version of the title contained a bug, a factor that caused "irreparable harm" to its reputation.
What because people saw they could make a game with ONLY ONE bug?
