To avoid detection from active sonar (pinging) you should also try to put the sound at your 180 degrees, and creep away. Then your sub looks the smallest. Whereas if the sound is on your 90 degrees (or 270) you make the biggest reflection area possible. Turning towards the sound (putting it on 0 degrees) also make the smallest reflection area, but you also close the distance to it, increasing the likelyhood of detection in the future.

Oh good. That topic about the Escort Training was very encouraging. I thought it wasn't supposed to be that hard...

Again, thanks for the help everyone.

Another question, if you guys really don't mind.

Sometimes my Position Keeper stops following the enemy's ship even though I have it on. I have to turn it off and back on again to get an update, but even then it still doesn't follow. Like, on the attack map, the white "X" will be on the enemy boat briefly, but then the boat immediatly leaves it behind because the "X" is not moving. Is this a bug? Or is it a feature I don't understand?

Thanks in advance!

did you input the ships speed? You must do so using the disc on the upper right corner of the periscope screen. Also, upon doing so, press the "send speed" button TWICE as it sometimes fails the first time.

Adding to that, position keeping is only as accurate as the data you've sent to the TDC. If the target's estimated speed is off and/or the target's estimated course is off then the X will drift accordingly.

Yes. I am identifying the ship, sending that information to the Position Keeper, turning the Position Keeper on, inputing the range, AOB, and speed, and then checking the Attack Map. In that order.

Like I said, if I do my calculations right, the "X" will be in the right place briefly, just not "following" the ship. Maybe I'm forgetting something. I'll definitely try hitting the buttons twice. I guess these symptoms would be caused by having a speed of 0. That certainly makes enough sense.

Thanks everyone! I'll try to stay out your hair from now on.
