Doesnt matter if it is an officer or not.
Maybe the Petty officer got K.I.A - or is in sick bay, or he is taking a dump/ having his dinner/ got assigned to another duty or whateva...

was going to type a spiel on graphics cards etc but by final release iam more than confident this sim will be up to par and more.On the Understanding sh5 needs to sell there will be a base line on min specs, but also will be future proof, tailored for ones desires and needs by offering more display settings to suit each individual and there prefrences, based on the players set up and hardware installed. Nevertheless iam sure all will be tweaked, but will this satisfy everyone?? the panic seems to have set already with so much expectaions, but it sure looks good and sounds good, as for all the details, 100% realism, historically accurate, features, we will just have to bide our time, and hope the devs get through most of these posts.

I'm just hoping they dump that ekstra officer (Navigator) and give the QM ("Helmsman" Petty Officer) back his job.

Ya I noticed that as well...looks like the helmsmen and CE are sitting on Beer cases... I hope those at least are just place holders for the pre-alpha build. The helmsman at least has seats attached by piping to the bulkheads.

At least they're historically accurate, unlike the seats the planesmen sat on in SH3 and the actual inclusion of a helmsman this time around.

Now there's (kinda) something I had been pondering: don't the boats vary, even within the same type?

iirc a Gato from 1 shipyard was different than 1 from an other yard, even though they were build during the same period, to the same specifications. I imagine the same applies to U-boots.
