I see that my old 300 baud modem does not make the scale any more.

300 baud? I might be able to pull a 2400 baud out of the closet. I see a 33.6 on my desk here. I can't personally touch 300 though! Wow! Older than my old Supra 2400 baud modem!

This is the site I was using to test:

around the middle of ISDN and Satalite on that chart here.

Wisconsin: Bringing down the average Internet speed since 1990.

I know that this is about European bandwidths, but I feel the need to vent. I sadly sit upon 28.8 kbps dialup. Nothing greater is available to my current residence. There have been rumors of the arrival of FIOS soon, but I have heard them before. Repeatedly. To top it off, this within what are considered the 'cosmopolitan' Philadelphia suburbs. Bah. I don't even have municipal water. When the power goes out, it's back to the 13th century.

I got 19.5 for download. Plenty fast enough for the "artistic" websites I visit.

cable modem, currently 4096/512 down/up
about 50$ pr month, way too expensive compared to competitors, but difficult to choose another ISP where I live...

That's so sick.

I live in Hawaii and pretty much thru most of the 90's all you could get was dial up 28.8kbps.
I thought.. because I was told... that Hawaii, due to being 21hundred miles out in the pacific, that the cables were not laid yet across the pacific and we in Hawaii were behind the rest of America. We soon caught up around year 2000.

I think its sick that any place on the American MAINLAND should be stuck without any other option but to use dial up. So sad.

Dude, that is so ridiculously true it's not even funny. We first got internet in 99 and Dial-up was the ONLY thing available... Now we have DSL but I had faster speeds on the boat...at sea...submerged.
