I hadn't looked at this thread in awhile, but in regards to the gun platform changes made on pages 9 - 10 of this thread. Since those changes the platform looks like the ends are perfect circles, connected by a slightly narrower portion. The look on page 9 before the changes, needed a bit of smoothing, but IMO the changes were too drastic.
As you can see in this top down blueprint, the platform should be "flared" at the ends, but not a perfect circle. It is also shown quite well in your posted Photo at the top of post #207 Keltos. ![]() Hope you understand what I mean. |

I personally think the old deck is closer to the blueprint. Maybe a bit wide though, as it seems the platform did not distort the shape of hull side quite so much. Really though, you should do what is a mix of what you think looks best, and what is most feasable to accomplish in the time you think is worth spending on it. I am sure we will be happy with it either way. |

Working from Blueprints can be a pain if not setup correctly.
That's an art in itself! I think your doing some very good work. ![]() Release it when your happy with it. If someone comes along and tweaks it after that? That's a tribute to you in many ways. Someone starts a mod, others take it to the next level. That's the way it always works. ![]() |

[edit2] made an AO map for both the fore dive planes, they originally didn't have any, looks like the Devs were in a rush and never implemented a lot of features... like the towers don't have bump maps.. that fixed the black shadow on the port side, but somehow the one on the starboard side doesn't take yet ??? ![]() keltos Last edited by keltos01; 07-19-09 at 03:31 AM. |

Forget the mixes and experiments, this is the one that looks best except when rendered against a blueprint:
What matters most is that the ship looks well and proportioned in the game, and as Privateer said, if somewhen in the future someone can further refine it, the better then. But you have limited free time in your life, and this can't be going on forever. This model is already very good, if you are going to put some extra time on it, then make the platform really floodable as you suggested, but forget other experiments. It still needs further mathing the hull with the platform, so that the small edge that is currently visible dissapears, but the design is overall very good. The part that also needs more work by now is the rear, there are still missing polygons and it is bumped as if the sub has been rammed from behind by a granny in a SUV ![]()

![]() ![]() here's a clipped part of the above image of the Nautilus. It shows the guns platform better, I enlarged it and worked it a bit in photoshop. But the small things : AA guns and AA guns platform etc... were usually fitted after the ship was launched, hence the "missing" fore AA platform here. I personnally like the mixed version best, as it keeps the good part from the cylinder gun platforms and is accurate blueprintwise. the guns platform is a separate object from the hull, as such the edges you are talking about, Hitman, are bound to be there. I will try and find some more time this week to try and make the platform look more like the above picture, with flooding holes and struts. ![]() the Narwhal's platform is not as round as the Nautilus' ? ![]() they are more like blades perpendicular to the outside edge, better support for the platform, and only are on the bridge and on the side on the fore and aft part of the platform, not the middle with the slanted hull. Do a Shell operation on the top deck.
Do the struts as new objects. Do one side then clone and Mirror them. Add Verts to the top decks bottom edge as needed to weld the struts. You may want to detach the sides of the struts then for sharp edges if they look wrong in Game. You shouldn't need the back sides of the struts as no one should be able to see them. Creating new Guns is a simple process. So I see no reason not to have them. |
