The gunman allegedly a 'White Supremicist'

An elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle inside the crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, gravely wounding a security guard before being shot. Authorities said they were investigating a white supremacist as the suspect. The assailant and his victim were both hospitalized, said Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty, who added that the gunman was in critical condition.

In 1983, he was convicted of attempting to kidnap members of the Federal Reserve Board. He was arrested two years earlier outside the room where the board was meeting, carrying a revolver, knife and sawed-off shotgun. At the time, police said Von Brunn wanted to take the members hostage because of high interest rates and the nation's economic difficulties.

He went on to read an email, filled with the usual paranoid "birther" nonsense, which included an admonishment to Smith. "This is, I promise, a representative sample of the kind of things that we get here," Smith said.

Well, von Brunn is probably going to die. According to CNN, he was shot in the head... and he has not regained consciousness yet. For an 88-year-old man, that's a severe thing.

If he doesn't die, then he'll be a vegetable at the very least.

Yeah, the e-mail he gets mirrors the majority of the Web. A lot of people are carrying anger they cannot deal with, so they take to the web to rant on the same topics over and over; look for ways to find fault with others, and patiently wait for opportunties to ridicule and verbally assault. Then occasionally one blows a gasket and takes a gun to a school or a knife on a subway car... If there's a solution, I don't know what it is.
