Thanks...

I would fire the torp and just a short time later they would start to zig zag, if gunship or destroyer. Merchant seems to have super good rudders and brakes.

I have been testing a few things out, sneaking up and using the sonar more then the periscope.
I think in good time I'll get this nailed down to be able to take on a large convoy. I've been sticking to small convoys and lonely transports.

Yes, ship handling and acceleration has been discussed here many times, as the performance of all vessels in the game - including the subs - is more appropriate to a Grand Prix sim than a naval one. Some folks are working on possible solutions, though, so take heart and keep sailing.

I've been getting the hang of it..
My incident today.

Just north of the China sea, contact popped up, I got too close, the contact when from a east direction to my direction and accelerated to fast. I dove to 200 feet and shut down the engine and batts. Listened on sonar and found him doing a pattern. Seemed to circle me once then about 1/2 way around he'd cut directory over me. Then repeat. Everytime I'd even push 1 knot I'd hear the sonar pings like crazy. I waited for about an hour with no give. Waited some more till he made the circle around me to the rear, perisocpe depth with an Aft torpedeo and BOOM! One hit, sunk..... Surface... Lets go home boys, we need fuel and torps, At this point I only have 3 aft torps left.
