GWX is about the U-boat war mate. Whatever waters the U-boat splashed around in... that is what we mod. There are already mods that cover U.S Navy submarine warfare in the Pacific. "The Grey Wolves" is the nickname that Admiral Doenitz gave his U-boatmen... and that is reflected in the title we gave our work. A public information release is coming soon... but the exact timing is subject to the demands of real life. |

I played SH3 until I heard German in my sleep, but the warmest place in my heart is reserved for the fleet boats, hence my excitement...then dismay. Quote:

Even if they were modding South Tibetan submarines, it would still be worth playing

The biggest thing that keeps me playing SH3 is that I like World War II submarines. Period. I've longed since SH1 to be able to play in the Pacific again, but thanks to Aces Of The Deep and SH3 I've come to love the German boats as well. Until there is a GWX4 I will have to keep playing SH3, no matter how much better I think SH4 is.

Although I have SH4 and the Pacific Mods I am still playing the Atlantic Theater. Don't get me wrong SH4 with the extra mods is absolutely brilliant, but somehow when I think of submarines my mind and thoughts go to the Atlantic. I think Clay Blair was correct when he called the Pacific Operations against Japan the "Silent Victory".

I have to remind my friends at school (and my history teachers) that the war in the pacific wouldnt have turned out the way it did without the submarines

Melnibonia,
Sounds like a you might have a misunderstanding of 'Silent Victory'. Silent pokes......... Sledgehammer, Not the time nor the place. Then again, is there ever a time or place Please keep on topic all.

I should think Melnibonian's interpretation is as good as any, given that Blair's Silent Victory was the first large scale retelling of the submarine war that was then relatively unknown, and therefore "silent", to the public at large. As the Amazon says, "When published in 1975, it was the first such account to detail controversial aspects of the American campaign, from the torpedo scandal to discrepancies between claimed and confirmed sinkings." Gwx4 jsgme or not
Hello
There was no jsgme installing option for GWX in SH3. but it was all about U-boats. With SH4 you have fleetboats also, I hope you can install GWX4 with jsgme as any other mod. Captain Vlad = "I played SH3 until I heard German in my sleep, but the warmest place in my heart is reserved for the fleet boats, hence my excitement...then dismay." Fleetboats will allways be an important part of SH4. Now you can have both english and german speech at same time in SH4, Like with my sh3ToSh4 ENV RFB-om700 one voice file "9" is for german lanquage and rest for english, So I do not think that GWX can take such a dominant role in SH4 as it did in SH3. True I am sure that GWX4 will be a great mod and I will play it a lot, but there are allready other great mods for fleetboats and U-boats.

You guys need to do Normal mapping and bump mapping on that to cut down on the load times with models like that.
The polygon count on that is probably astronomical. And seeing as how a lot of people here don't have that great of a system (some of you do, not talking about you guys) It would probably be a wise idea to have a stunted version of those highpoly models for the low end systems. Like using LODs (Level of Detail) or something to that effect. Have a Light version for the SH3 style rigs (None of the grid work on the hull, it's all in the textures) so you don't leave those guys with crappy framerates. Just my two cents. Looks great anyways |
