Manual charting in stock version - how?

Feeling more stupid by the minute! hehe
Looking at Wasserman's manual charting guide, I suppose I can use the ruler tool with tool help enabled to draw an accurate bearing?

Otherwise yeah, I've "discovered" how to use the protractor, but using it is nowhere near as fast as drawing a straight ruler line from the sub with a bearing overlay.

WRT BVR targets, I guess I'm just spoiled by Gods Eye. Without it, one must pay more attention to bearing shifts over time to close to visual range.
