I'm pretty sure you were being rhetorical, but I thought I'd say it anyway.
Yes I was Steve but clarification is always nice I have owned weapons. I had a 30/30 Marlin with scope. Winchester pump 12 gauge shotgun with interchangable slug barrel and a Browning 380 pistol. Sold them all. I found I had no interest in hunting deer or turkey. The Browning was fun at the range but that gets expensive. Then kids came along. No need for these in the house. Hey, I will join anyway.

Thanks Subman, I'm back in the fold. Didn't realize there is 25,000 to my family if I'm killed at work.

Wow, membership must really be dropping if they are forced to give it away for free.

And here I was, thinking you at least had some logical thought. I am sorry you proved me wrong once again. This is perhaps one of the smartest moves they could have ever done. Quite genius I might add.

Platapus's comment was indeed a dig. But so was this reply, and also required no logical thought, just a superior and condescending attitude. No genius at all.

And yours is a dig too. I was referring to the NRA's idea to give away for a short time NRA memberships that were quite genius, though I see you're are out to quickly pull my chain.

Anyway. Not looking to get into a pissing match, so I end my reply digs here.

I snipe at you because a lot of the time I agree with you; and I expect more of people I agree with.

Don't sweat it Steve. Let Subman have his fun. He likes that sort of stuff.

But I appreciate the assist.

And yes it was a dig at the NRA. I have been a shooter for more than 20 years and I have never been a member of the NRA. I have some personal disagreements with the NRA and exercise my right not to support their lobbying activities.

When I was shooting in USPSA competitions, I used to pay a higher entry fee because I was not a member. To me, it was worth it to maintain separation from an organization I often disagree with. I also disagree with the way shooters and shooting organizations push membership in the NRA.

NRA membership only represents less than 10% of American Gun Owners.

Estimated 44 million (1) gun owners vs estimated <4 million (2) NRA members. 40 Million gun owners can't all be wrong. I am a proud member of the Majority group in this issue.

It is my opinion that the NRA, through their rhetoric, has done more harm for the perception of gun-ownership than their lobbying activities have helped it. Charlton Heston (RIP) holding a rifle in his hands bellowing "from my cold dead fingers" is not representative of my idea of responsible gun-ownership.

But these are my opinions only. If anyone wishes to take advantage of the free membership of the NRA and be subject to their marketing, more power to them. I wish them only the best of luck.

As for me, even a free membership in the NRA is over priced.

One has to ask oneself, why would the NRA offer free memberships? They want your money. Often free gifts are too expensive.

But anyway, everyone to his own. I wish all of you the best of luck in your dealings with the NRA.

That's why, as a gun owner and avid shooter, I haven't joined them either. I applaud their gun safety programs and sponsorship of shooting events, but then they shoot themselves in the foot with the rabid antigun control rantings....
