Thanks for the feedback. I am really looking forward to this. I think I got my money out of my 2002 PC. (I said somewhere else 2001, I don't think it's THAT old, lol).

I suppose the easiest way to transfer files from my current HD, I can stick my current hard drive into an empty bay on the new PC, set is as slave, and move the files that way.

OT: I am reading War Without End, a book about Israel and Palestine.

Neal... you should have called and negotiated with Dell. I recently ordered a studio xps 16 laptop and pretty much cut them down almost to cost, got about 250$ extra in savings including free 5.1 x-540 speakers and 50% off my next battery purchase (as i need a 9 cell but they don't got them yet). And that was on a system that was already discounted by about 500$ from their base list system. It did take 2 hours on the phone and talking to the manager a few times to get it.

Anyhow looks like it will be a good build.

Need to watch. Your new drive will be SATA and have a different connector than the drive in your old computer which is probably a IDE connector. SATA is a better/faster drive. Anyway, your PSU on the new computer may not have the correct connector for an older IDE drive. I know you got a new 1TB external drive. Before I would crack open the new computer and pulling wires

I would consider transfering your files to the external drive and then move to your new computer.

If something goes wrong Dell might ask just WTH you were doing inside the machine and then decline any warranty claim for repairs/replacement.

Yup, dont go inside a computer unless you know what you are doing or have someone close by who knows.

External drives are getting cheap anyway, and are very handy.

Edit: I have pretty much the same computer, Core 2 Duo E8500, 4GB DDR2 and the ATI HD 4870. A bit more power, but you will run most games maxed out with no problems.

OK, now I'm really mad. Just read your post, and almost cried. I've been checking out the same dell setup you just bought. Just as you say, ''got to do something'' Am limping along with the same basic setup as you. 2003 P4 with dinosaur crap all over it ! This machine doesn't even have a start button on it. Has a hand crank like an old tin lizzy. Only advantage this has over a newer machine is that I don't have to worry about power failures, as this thing is a coal burner !

Oh well... Hurry up, tax refund !!!

Oh yea, you'll love it Neal. Running 60fps+ in SH4, and this baby is quiet. The case is real impressive and built well for cooling.

I also have a POS Dell arriving tomorrow for work that I am so not looking forward too, regardless that its decked out with Nvidia GPU, etc.

They skimp on everything. Looks nice on paper BS....

Don't buy into the hype for the i7 processors.
These are workstation oriented processors, very fast in multithreaded applications BUT for gaming they are a marginal increase at best and in some cases they even go slower over the fastest Core 2 Quads. If all you do is rendering all day long then yes an i7 is your choice, but for gaming no. You'll just throw $$$$ for no benefit at all.
Take a Core 2 Quad at 3 GHz with 12 MB L2 cache + 4/8 GB of ddr2 ram and you'll have a computer that smokes pretty much everything out there.
